Sulfur Acne Treatment
Sulfur (sometimes spelled "sulphur") acne treatments have been around for more than 50 years.
It can be found in both prescription and in many over-the-counter medications. While it's been used for a long time in the treatment of acne, science is still not sure why it works on mild-to-moderate acne flare-ups. It's thought that sulfur interacts with a substance in the top layer of the skin, causing a keratolytic effect - similar to what happens with salicylic acid.
Sulfur by itself smells like rotten eggs, so it is seldom used on its own.
Side effects are mild and in line with those of other over-the-counter solutions. It's recommended you consult your dermatologist before trying any sulfur acne treatment.
