Adapalene (Differin)
In some people, adapalene (sold under the brand name Differin®) has proven a great way to combat acne. You apply it as a gel or cream, and you need a prescription from your doctor to get it. Adapelene is a topical retinoid similar to Vitamin A.
As with other topical retinoids, the science is unclear on exactly how adapalene works, but the best guess is that it alters the growth of skin cells and thereby reduces your chance of getting pimples.
Adapalene acne treatment does have side effects. These include irritation, dryness, itchy skin, sensitivity to the sun and additional acne flare-ups.
Little research has been done on its effects on pregnant women, so ask your doctor. Do not use adapalene with other acne medications unless told to by your doctor.
As with any medication of this type, please consult your doctor or dermatologist prior to use.
